Can my employer force me to serve the full notice period?
Usually the contract governs it. Many contracts let you leave earlier by paying salary in lieu of notice (a buyout). The employer can also waive part of it — get any change in writing.
What if I leave without serving notice?
The employer may recover notice-pay or delay the full-and-final settlement, and disputes can follow. But if your earned salary or dues are being withheld to punish you, that can itself be challenged.
Do weekends and holidays count in the notice period?
Unless the contract says otherwise, notice usually runs on calendar days, so weekends and holidays are included. This calculator counts calendar days or months from the served date.
